How does laser hair therapy work?
Low-level laser light therapy (LLLT) involves exposing your scalp to near-infrared laser light. This energy promotes tissue repair and regeneration by stimulating cellular activity.
LLLT has a long history of treating serious skin wounds, joint pain, nerve damage, and other medical conditions. In recent years, however, laser light therapy also shows promising benefits for hair restoration purposes.
Laser hair therapy triggers hair regrowth by:
- Stimulating active growth (anagen phase) for dormant follicles
- Making follicles stay in the anagen phase for a longer period
- Preventing premature ends to hair growth cycles (catagen phase)
In general, low-level laser light therapy simply stimulates processes that naturally occur and helps improve hair growth functions.
What are the benefits of laser hair therapy?
Laser hair therapy from Texas Hair Restoration Center is highly beneficial for a variety of reasons. After all, surgical hair restoration isn’t ideal for every person, and it isn’t always necessary.
Dr. Pearce provides laser hair therapy because it’s:
- Nonchemical, which is important if you have sensitive skin
- Noninvasive and won’t cause scarring
- Entirely painless
Additionally, undergoing low-level laser hair therapy at Texas Hair Restoration Center is known to improve your hair strength over time.
How many laser hair therapy sessions will I need?
It depends on the severity of your thinning hair and how quickly your follicles respond to the treatment. In the beginning, you’re going to need several visits throughout the week, but your number of sessions tapers off over time.
In one study published in a 2013 edition of Lasers in Surgery and Medicine journal, patients were treated once a day for 10 minutes. After 14 weeks of treatment, researchers observed an increase in hair density, as well as an improvement in hairs entering the active anagen phase.
Though daily laser sessions aren’t necessary, Dr. Pearce may recommend coming in to Texas Hair Restoration Center two or three times each week for several weeks to help boost hair growth. As you taper your sessions to once a week or once every other week after several months, you should have noticeable improvements in your hair growth.
